TuairiscBronze Age Settlement - geograph.org.uk - 1340839.jpg
English: Bronze Age Settlement This is a small part of what was an extensive settlement dating back to around 2200 BC and occupied until at least 500 BC. The round houses were partially sunk into the ground, with low walls and roofs thatched with reeds. Changing climate and rising sea levels eventually led to the abandonment of the settlement, and it was engulfed by the sand until discovered during sand extraction. It was excavated in the late 20th century.
